By Ole Wanscher (attributed/ unstamped). Denmark c,1940s.
Beech timber frame, Mahogany handle, quality patterned pile upholstery in black.
950 h x 550 w x 600 d mm
490 seat h mm
Unmistakably Denmark's most skilful and most recognisable chair craftsman. Large elegant curved timber edges, reminiscent of the Art Nouveau designs, Wanscher was known for this feature and for use of high quality timbers and in some cases, entire chair would be in Rosewood.
This is an usual design due to it's large handle at the top made from a different wood to the frame, Mahogany.
The most distinctive feature is the human-like carved area under the armrest. Much like that of your elbow. The chair structure is Beech hardwood, with beautiful grain and highlights, notable attribute.
The chair is in great condition. Reupholstered by the last owner. Timber restored, oil cleaned and recently waxed.
Some minor scratches and marks as expected.
