Mid century bamboo extension dining table by Paul Frankl - Austria / America. 
Supplied by Johnsons Furniture Company, New York c,1954. 

Original condition. Walnut laminate/ veneer top.

Dimensions-
Length extends 1,240 to 1,850 mm
785 h x 935 w mm  

Design/ origin-
Paul Frankl needs no introduction. Art Deco furniture craftsman and architect, often using mixed media in the furniture construction which could be regarded as art. Most commonly known in Australia for the Pretzel lounge.
(A large Art Deco style armchair/ lounge, with massive exaggerated bowed arms). 

This table was matched with a set of six dining chairs, also listed on our site. 
Both pieces were imported by the last owner during their trip from the US in the mid 1950s. Where they were purchased from Johnsons Furniture Company, NY. Who were the only company to supply and sell Frankl's furniture at the time. 

The table extends and compresses by an automatic lift when the sides are pulled. This clever piece of joinery, makes this table very unique in its use and operation. 
However it is slight clunky at doing this, given it's age.

The table is exceptionally unique, rare and of very high quality. 

Condition-
Oil cleaned recently, the bamboo frame has a great colour. 
The faux timber effect laminate top has been slightly discoloured by the sun, with the central pieces a shade darker. There are also a few scratches as expected.
