Mid Century Saucer Fibreglass side chair. Dark orange round shell chair on black painted steel rod base. Australia c,1950s/60s. Designer/ Manufacturer unknown.
Dimensions- 710 x 710 round mm 670 h mm (Small sized chair, however suitable for adults)
Design/ origin- Mid Century modern in style. During this period, fibreglass was being introduced into modern furniture, the likes of Eames for example, who were experimenting with this medium as early as the 1940s. Round style/ almost saucer/ UFO influenced seat. Carefully perched on a minimal steel rod frame. This gives this small & humble chair a great look and style.
Condition- Overall condition is consistent with age. There are the usual wear and tear as expected. The fibreglass has light superficial surface cracks and discolouration. None of which are structural and does not effect it's integrity. The rear of the chair is unfinished. I believe this is how it was sold originally. As you can see this item presents very well
