Dimensions-
950 h x 400 w x 460 d mm
470 seat h mm
Design/ origin-
A wonderful collision, of one of the World's most famous chair manufacturers and an incredible designer.
This is a rather rare and unique example, firstly being that of a design from Josef Hoffmann, who's main collection ended up here in Melbourne and now features as a permeant exhibit in the NGV. And secondly the condition. Which is sort after by interior designers, furniture restorers and artists alike.
This chair possess years and years of layered old paint. As pictured, mainly black, red and even yellow peeking through. Despite all the paint, the two labels are still visible, this dates the chair around c,1922.
The chair form itself is undoubtably Art Deco in style. With a thin high angular back rest, reminiscent to C.R Mackosh's Hill House chair, c,1903.
The chair has even a crocodile skin pattern embossed into chair seat.
Condition-
Overall condition is consistent with age. There are the usual wear and tear as expected. However as you can see this item presents very well. The chair is solid and should last another 100 years.
