Genuine Antique three seater full-sized traditional Chesterfield.

With new reversible cushions. Collectable & rare piece of history. Surviver and relic.

William Latchford & Son (Melbourne Ship Furnishers) 3 seater roll-armed, full-leather traditional Chesterfield sofa. C,1918. Melbourne, Australia.

Dimensions-

1,990 L x 880 H x 930 D mm

420 seat H mm

Design/ origin-

Traditional Victorian style Chesterfield. Elegant large rolled armed design, high back with a deep comfortable seat. Just how a Chesterfield should be.

Manufactured by William Latchford & Sons, the company who in the 1950s produced under- licence Miles Van de Rohe's 'Barcelona Chair', by Knoll USA. Not to forget Denmark's Jens Risom's range of mid century furniture.

With this said, the quality of this Chesterfield is second to none.

Partly restored, with new top cushions. Covered in a two tone reversible option. Leather one side, chevron/ tribal the other. Completely leather conditioned throughout.

This Chesterfield is on five castors/ wheels, which makes it easy to position around the house.

Studded finish on the front arms and back, makes for an interesting attractive piece of furniture that can be placed centrally.

Condition-

Overall condition is consistent with age (103 years). The condition of the leather could not be replicated, the colour and patina is absolutely beautiful. So much age and history.

I have tried to photograph all the defects. Please refer to the multi image for condition.

Parts on this sofa have been repaired and not replaced, this is to compliment its authenticity and age. One the left-side front-arm, there is a repaired area of leather. Also on the outside arm, there is a repair to a large rip on the leather. Along the front of the sofa edge, you can see cracked areas. And one small hole centrally on the seat back.

Leather has been leather treated and conditioned to soften and revive.

Castors are all original apart from one.

Sofa has been re-enforced with new added webbing to the underside. All springs are there and are complete. New bottom cloth added, with the original marker's stamp re-added.

As you can see this item presents very well. It's a historic relic/ antique/ survivor which has lasted all this time, with this said this sofa is probably best suited 'not' around children, or in a busy area with lots of use.
