Set of six original DSC-106 stacking chairs by Giancarol Piretti for Anonima Castelli, Italy c,1960s.
Dimensions-
770 h x 570 w x 555 d mm
460 seat h mm
Design/ origin-
Italian Mid century modernism at its best, by one of Italy's most known designers. Piretti.
Signature piece of commercial 1960s seating; stylish, compact and made to last. Like his other folding chair designs, these chairs stack away, with thought to the living of modern day life.
Made of several components, which link and lock together when bolted. The construction of the frame is something to hold in high regard. Plastic coated steel legs, with solid aluminium joining brace sections, make for a recognisable feature to anyone who appreciates furniture design.
Chairs stamped with two different numbers
144/ 89 - 38 45
154 / 92 - 23 94
Likely to be the production numbers/ range.
Condition-
Overall condition is consistent with age. I have tried to photograph all the defects. These chairs were recovered in cheap black vinyl when I got them. I removed this to uncover the beautiful 'near mint' original multi colour wool upholstery. This is an aqua blue, with highlights of burgundy/ green/ blue. There are so small defects/ holes as pictured and some discolouration.
The frames have a few faults but hold very strong. The plastic black wrap on the legs have shrunken and broken in places, exposing the metal and rust discolouration underneath.
The person who recovered them with black vinyl last time, also drilled in side screws on each of the chairs. These are un-original and very unfortunate.
On two of the chairs in the centre of the seat, there is a ridge under the upholstery. I am unsure what this is.
There is one none original bolt on one of the chairs, not that noticeable however.
the chairs have all of their original feet.
With all of this said, as you can see these chairs presents very well and are great mid century collectable Italian designs.
Item has been priced accordingly.
